Maryann started smoking when she was just 12 years old and before she became smoke free she was smoking around 25 – 30 rolled cigarettes per day.
Maryann was suffering from spinal nerve compression, cardiomyopathy and hypotension, causing her to feel dizzy and light-headed. Driven by a desperate desire to improve her health status, she felt more determined than ever to give quitting a go. “I believe that some of my health issues were caused by smoking. I felt like there was no point in asking for help with my health when I’m smoking and, above all, I don’t want to damage my health even more.”
She decided to call our friendly wellbeing team for professional support to quit smoking and was put into contact with Lisa, one of our expert health improvement practitioners.
Lisa talked through all the available Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products and in the end, Maryann decided to give vaping a go. Lisa arranged for Maryann to be sent a free vaping kit with 5 weeks supply of vaping fluid. Maryann said: “Vaping helped me because the hand-to-mouth action is like smoking, plus you get similar sensations.”
Since becoming smoke free, Maryann has noticed significant benefits to her health: “I feel much better in myself. I had a horrendous cough for years, that’s gone now, along with my shortness of breath. My blood pressure has improved, and I’ve got more energy. I’m walking more these days.”
With the rising price of cigarettes, Maryann is also pleased to discover the delightful added bonus of seeing the savings roll in. “I’m saving £120 a month by not smoking. So far, I’ve used the money I’ve saved to treat myself to luxury toiletries.”
In a final, powerful statement, Maryann highlighted how being smoke free will not only benefit her own health but will benefit her family too. She expressed with conviction her strong desire to be fully present and healthy for her five daughters and son along with her lovely grandchildren and be part of their lives for as long as possible.
Lisa said: “Maryann was motivated right from the word go – she embraced her quit and much to her surprise found it a lot easier than she thought. She has been a pleasure to help.”
