Meet Terry (age – 73) – one of our recent Fit Friends participants:
I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation 2 years ago and was getting less active. It was recommended by the GP and Cardiologist to tackle my weight. I was then signposted to the Fit Friends group by the GP. I was offered online or face to face. I chose face to face to help get me out, and also didn’t want another course where you are doing the washing up or something when online. I wasn’t sure what to expect, maybe a typical slimming group, which it wasn’t, in a good way.
The collaboration with Argyle Community Trust was good, especially Greg who was great. The physical element was all doable and enjoyable and we weren’t pushed beyond our own limits. The staff were really helpful and good at listening and directing accordingly.
Following Fit Friends, Terry decided to join one of our Wellbeing Walks:
I didn’t know about the walks prior to Fit Friends. I wanted to continue doing something and felt better doing it with people and knowing someone is there to help if needed. The groups are friendly, and you can see that those already going have been doing the walks for years. I had met Sam the Walk Leader at Fit Friends.
Would Terry recommend Fit Friends and Wellbeing Walks to others and why?
I have already recommended Wellbeing walks to a couple of people. And I would Definitely recommend Fit Friends to anyone in my situation.
I am still eating better. I always check the labels now and if I see red I just put it back. I am eating more vegetables especially in soups and casseroles. I am also eating fish more often.
