One You Plymouth are supporting a new campaign aimed at improving health, saving money and helping to reduce our carbon footprint all by having one meat free day a week.
Between April and June, we are all being encouraged to take part in the ‘Meat Free Monday’ initiative to discover how cutting down on your meat intake, even just one day a week, can make a world of difference.
Inspired by the national ‘Meat Free Monday’ campaign, One You Plymouth have been looking at ways they can motivate Plymouth to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
Andrew Pratt, Specialist Health Improvement Practitioner at One You Plymouth, who is behind the campaign, said: “We’re really encouraging Plymouth residents to get behind the idea of reducing the amount of meat they eat and supporting Meat Free Mondays is a great place to start!
“There’s been a rise nationally in the amount of people cutting down on their meat intake with supermarkets really getting behind the initiative so I think people are starting to realise it’s much easier to go meat free.”
“There are a lot of benefits including reducing your risk of cancers, diabetes, depression and strokes.”
“Going meat free can also help you save money – plant proteins such as dried pulses typically cost less than the equivalent amount of animal protein and it reduces your carbon footprint.”

Andrew added: “Vegetables, pulses and lentils can be a great source of protein and we’ll be sharing tasty non-meat recipes with you over the course of the campaign to inspire you and tantalise your taste buds!
