ukactive has reaveled that National Fitness Day 2024 will take place on Wednesday 18th September, hot on the heels of the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris.
The most active day of the year is set to surpass all previous records. Now in its 13th year, National Fitness Day is set to receive backing from Endurance Zone, a sports rewards platform, and Movember, a men’s mental health charity, for a second consecutive year.
Gyms, swimming pools, leisure centres, sports clubs, schools, workplaces, and digital providers throughout the UK are gearing up to welcome as many individuals as possible, aiming to introduce them to new activities and help them enjoy the physical, social, and mental advantages of exercise. You can find out what free activities are taking place in Plymouth with the National Fitness Day Finder.
Last year, over 10 million people in the UK were inspired to take part in some form of physical activity on National Fitness Day, whether it was their first or their hundredth occasion. The campaign reached a worldwide audience of 57.2 million, with 31.3 million engaging on social media platforms.
Building on this success, the campaign will return with a new theme: ‘Your Health is for Life’, highlighting the crucial role that physical activity plays in our overall health and wellbeing at every stage of our lives. This initiative is particularly important at a time when the nation’s health and wellbeing are under the spotlight, following Sport England’s 2022-23 Active Lives report, which revealed increasing disparities in physical activity levels across the country.
From youngsters and adolescents to adults in the workforce and the elderly, National Fitness Day is designed to motivate everyone to lead a more active lifestyle and understand the significance of physical activity for their health. The Fitness Day Rewards App from Endurance Zone is now accessible for download on all major app stores, where the more steps you take, the more points you earn that can be used for prizes and discounts on popular brands.
The campaign will also aim to showcase the vital role that the physical activity sector plays in preventing over 20 chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, various types of cancer, depression, and anxiety. Movember will support the
campaign in raising awareness about the importance of mental health and the strong connection between physical activity and improved mental wellbeing.
Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, said: “It’s clear that our nation’s gyms, pools, leisure centres, fitness studios and sports clubs have never been so in demand, showing how much people value physical activity for their physical and mental health.”
