One You Plymouth’s smoking cessation service offers help to Livewell South West mental health in-patients during their hospital stay to keep them comfortable from nicotine withdrawal by providing Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) treatment and support them if they decide they want to attempt to quit.

An ex-patient from a psychiatric in-patient unit has credited the stop smoking support he received from one of our top NHS Health Improvement Practitioners, Lisa, to helping him stay smokefree for over 8 weeks now.  He wishes to remain anonymous and will be referred to as TC. When TC was admitted, he took full advantage of the site being smokefree and decided this was his chance to quit smoking.

TC decided to quit smoking by switching to vaping and Lisa supplied him with a free vape and 12 weeks worth of e-liquid and on discharge was given 2 weeks worth of e-liquid to take away. He said he’s getting on well with vaping.  He reported that his sense of taste and smell has improved and he is much less breathless on exertion.

Quitting smoking has been a positive change in TC’s life, he is determined to remain smokefree and is grateful for the support he received from Lisa in helping him achieve it.

Lisa said:  “Due to the smokefree policy on the hospital site, this shows that with support both in hospital and out that people can achieve a smokefree future.”
