‘WHEN YOU STOP SMOKING, GOOD THINGS START TO HAPPEN’

Stoptober is back and we are calling on smokers in Plymouth to join the 2.5 million others who have made a quit attempt with the campaign since it first launched.

Over 5 million adults in England still smoke, and it remains the biggest behavioural cause of preventable illness and death, with 64,000 deaths a year. This year’s Stoptober mass quit attempt is as important as ever, with quitting remaining one of the best things a smoker can do for their health.

That’s why this year’s Stoptober campaign is encouraging smokers to join the thousands of others who are committing to quitting for the month of October – quit smoking for 28 days and you’re five times more likely to quit for good.

The theme for this year’s campaign, “When you stop smoking, good things start to happen,” aims to emphasise the immediate advantages you can experience when you quit smoking.

See what happens when your shortness of breath decreases and you’ve got so much more energy like John.

John – You’re a legend!

Or you start saving on average £70 a week like Jess.

Good effort Jess!

Did you know that nearly all ex-smokers notice positive changes in their lives as early as two weeks after quitting? New nationwide research has shown that 95% of ex-smokers saw positive changes as soon as two weeks after quitting. Some 3,000 adults were interviewed in the last week of August as part of the study conducted by Censuswide. The study found that some of the top benefits they saw within 2 weeks of quitting included having more energy (45%), feeling healthier (42%) and breathing better (42%).

In addition to key improvements in health measures, many survey respondents also noted improvement in their ability to exercise (22%), healthier looking skin (24%), their sense of taste returning (25%), and saving money (34%).
