New blogs are posted every week so keep checking back for the latest updates.
Quit For COVID Update
Current research suggests that smokers are approximately 2.5 times as likely to need significant medical treatment due to the effects from COVID-19.
So far 78,000 people across the South West have quit smoking with help from their local Stop Smoking service.
If you would like help to quit smoking today, contact the team on 01752 437177 or email us via the link below and we can offer you one to one telephone support with one of our Stop Smoking advisors.
Cook and Care Project
We are living in extraordinary times and while some of us are returning to a “new normal”, many others still remain socially isolated at home. Food Is Fun’s Cook and Care project can make a huge difference by providing those people with someone to talk to and share food with (remotely of course). After all everyone needs a friend or two, and we all love eating food!
They are also looking for friendly volunteers to become Telephone Buddies to continue conversations following the initial cooking sessions for around an hour each week.
SafeTALK course for World Suicide Prevention Day
In Plymouth, on average one person dies from suicide every 2 weeks. As part of our support for World Suicide Prevention Day and as our part of helping to reduce the stigma and barriers around talking about suicide we are running a SafeTALK course on the 8th September to help you become suicide alert and know how to talk to, and help, someone who might be thinking of suicide.
Places for this course are limited due to COVID-19 restrictions and can be booked via the Livewell Southwest Academy.
7th to 13th September is Know Your Numbers! Week. Join the nation’s biggest blood pressure testing and awareness-raising campaign. Due to social distancing measures we won’t be able to offer free pressure checks in our community ‘Pressure Stations’ this year, but we can still encourage the whole of the UK to Know Their Numbers!
10th September is World Suicide Prevention Day. Every year, suicide is among the top 20 leading causes of death globally for people of all ages. It is responsible for over 800,000 deaths, which equates to one suicide every 40 seconds.
