New training courses available

The One You Plymouth team regularly provides training on a range of topics to help people understand and provide information and advice on leading healthier lifestyles.

This week the new training programme for 2017 has been released, details of which are provided below. These courses are open to anyone aged 16 or over, living or working in or around the Plymouth area.

Alcohol Reduction (Alcohol Identification & Brief Advice)

Offering an evidence based approach to helping participants to identify when individuals are drinking at increasingly higher levels and are not typically seeking help for an alcohol problem, participants will learn how to identify alcohol users who may benefit from a brief intervention, and practice skills and techniques for delivering simple advice as well as more extensive interventions. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

A research based, interactive and practical course enabling participants to develop an understanding of people who have thoughts of suicide, identify risk and develop the skills and confidence to deliver effective engagement and communication to apply ‘suicide first aid’. Click here.

Make Every Contact Count (formerly Brief Advice for Healthier Lifestyles)

An evidence based approach covering theoretical models and local lifestyles information to provide an overview of key messages, participants will develop the confidence and skills required to help improve the health of their community, workplace or voluntary organisation. Click here.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

Providing an overview of common mental health problems and information, tools and techniques to enable participants to support someone who may be experiencing mental or emotional distress. Click here.

Mental Health First Aid for Armed Forces

Providing an overview of common mental health problems and information, tools and techniques to enable participants to support veterans and families of both serving and veteran Armed Forces personnel who may be experiencing mental or emotional distress. Click here.

Mental Health First Aid Youth

Providing an overview of common mental health problems and information, tools and techniques to enable participants to support young people aged 8 – 18 years who may be experiencing mental or emotional distress. Click here.

Mental Health First Aid Lite

An introductory course enabling participants to gain a wider understanding of some of the issues surrounding mental health and how to work more effectively with people experiencing mental health problems. Click here.

Smoking Cessation Workshop

Specifically designed for front-line clinical staff, providing the tools and knowledge to deliver up to date smoking cessation advice to clients.

Understanding Mental Health & Wellbeing

Providing participants with a better understanding of their own attitudes and beliefs about mental health and wellbeing, and how it can be protected and improved using the ‘Five Winning Ways to Mental Health & Wellbeing’. Click here.

Wellbeing Champion Training

Wellbeing Champion training provides the basics of how to positively impact the health and wellbeing of the people in your company/organisation/community; how to run simple healthy lifestyle projects; and how to make a difference in people’s health and wellbeing.

This 6 hour course (9:30am – 3:30pm) provides information on these 4 main areas of healthy lifestyle: diet, physical activity, smoking cessation and sensible drinking.
